For Clubs & non-profits

Websites for clubs, foundations and initiatives

For Stiftung Tier & Natur in Solingen I deliberately did not build a custom system but a solution that stays maintainable without a developer. For non-profits that is usually the right answer.

01 — The situation

How it usually looks

The budget is small, time is short, and the board changes. Building something elaborate here leaves a problem three years later: nobody knows how to change it any more, and every small thing has to be paid for. Which is why maintainability counts for more here than styling.

02 — What counts

What matters for clubs & non-profits

Maintainable without prior knowledge

Dates, reports and notices should be changeable by people who do not know HTML — and still in five years, when different people sit on the board.

Donations and membership without friction

Someone who wants to donate should manage it in two clicks. Bank details visible, reference suggested, and where needed a form for the membership application.

Dates and reports

The part that keeps a club site alive. If maintaining it is too awkward it gets left — and a year later last summer’s festival is still the latest news.

Legal requirements

Imprint, privacy policy, and for registered associations the register details. Collecting donations adds further requirements — that belongs in from the start.

The usual mistake

A solution that is too elaborate. At the foundation I deliberately chose WordPress over a custom build — it fits the need, fits the budget and runs on without me. Anyone selling a club a bespoke system is selling it a future problem.

03 — Structure

Which pages you need

A workable starting point. Not every point applies to every business — we settle that in the first conversation.

  1. 01Homepage with purpose and current occasion
  2. 02About us — aims, board, history
  3. 03Dates and reports
  4. 04Get involved and donate
  5. 05Contact and legal

Stiftung Tier & Natur

Non-profit foundation, Solingen

A nature conservation foundation that wanted to maintain its own content and blog posts — without commissioning someone for every change.

Deliberately a WordPress solution rather than a custom build. It fits the need, fits the budget, and runs without us.

05 — Questions

Frequently asked

Is there a discount for non-profits?

I work at a lower hourly rate and generally choose the simpler solution — together that usually amounts to more than a percentage discount. Just ask.

Can we maintain the site ourselves afterwards?

Yes, and for clubs that is the single most important point. You get an introduction, and I write a short guide to go with it — for the people who take over in three years.

What if we do need help later?

Then get in touch. There is no contract binding you and no retainer you have to pay. Individual changes are billed by effort.

A website for your business?

Describe briefly what you have in mind. You get an honest assessment of effort, duration and cost — and a hint if something else fits better.
